When we are deeply attached to Jesus, he draws us in and sends us out, he gives us refuge and offers us resources, he gives us comfort and builds our confidence.

About Dr. Holsclaw

Dr. Geoff Holslcaw seeks to integrate theological anthropology and pastoral ministry. A native of California, he has been teaching theology at various seminaries since 2013, and has been a local church pastor since 2003, first in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, and now in Grand Rapids, MI.

While he was first drawn to philosophy and theology, and the apologetic frontier between the two, of late these interests have grown to include relational neuroscience and spiritual formation. This led to becoming the co-mentor for the DMIN in Spiritual Formation and Relational Neuroscience here at Western Seminary.

Dr. Holsclaw co-hosts the Attaching to God podcast, along with wife and ministry partner Cyd Holslcaw. They are both in the process of launching the Center for Embodied Faith, which will create resources integrating relational neuroscience and spiritual formation. In 2025, they are releasing a book connecting attachment theory and spiritual formation (working title is Deeply Attached to God: How Jesus Leads Us Out of an Anxious and Avoidant Faith).

Dr. Holsclaw has published articles on theology, political theology, and political philosophy, has co-authored popular books like Does God Really Like Me? Discovering the God Who Wants to Be With Us and Prodigal Christianity: 10 Signposts into the Missional Frontier, as well as the more academic Transcending Subjects: Augustine, Hegel, and Theology.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Dr. Holsclaw is currently researching and writing on attachment theory, relational neuroscience, theological anthropology, and spiritual formation.
